Soundin' good!

Does the original justice for sure. Can I ask what plugins/recorded instrument(s) you used to achieve the sounds in this? It all sounds pretty crisp so I'd be interested to know how that was achieved.

rtnario responds:

Hahaha, I recorded no instruments and if you want more info go for PMs :) Thanks for the review though!

Hmmm

I really liked the panning, did you model the channels after a real orchestral arrangement or was it more improv?

DJ-Chilvan responds:

Oh shit! I didn't even see this review lol=P Sorry!
In all of my classical songs (except for my first one lol), I channel everything based on a real orchestra layout, but the only difference is that I usually pan the contrabass more left rather than to the right, where it is located in a real orchestra. This is to provide a main balance of sounds and so the bass won't overpower the right channel, which also has low frequencies such as the cellos and timpani.

Loved The Preview

This song really exemplifies creative use of instruments, such as the harpsichord (I think?) put to a breakbeat - creates such a great feel, especially for the halloween vibe you guys were going for. Loved the preview, love this finished version, it's definitely properly mastered at least in terms of volume and clarity too, can't tell many other tweaks but it works nicely regardless.

5'd, 10'd, updated version DL'd.

wyldfyre1 responds:

Glad you enjoyed it =). We did work pretty hard on this puppy so i'm glad that ya'll are enjoying it as much as we enjoyed making it. yes, its a harpsichord =).

Woah

I was never huge on this but I can tell the effort that went into the remake at least clarity-wise.

I'd love to know where you got that left panned bass, that was pretty powerful stuff.

b0b3rt responds:

Thanks =)
Give me a few minutes and I'll pm you the name of the synth.

Ah!

You did make a remastered version. I must say this is a lot clearer than the previous incarnation, good work.

MmmCake responds:

:D!

Honestly...

I think you may have overmuted the track. If you make that high... sounds kinda like a square? lead stand out more you'll have a pretty ace track on your hands. It's a bit too mundane, even for ambient. Sounds like the problem is too much wet reflection and not enough dry reflection on reverb effects or perhaps just some poor EQing, not sure. That's my opinion, anyway, maybe the song's exactly how you want it as it is :)

kjhsdgf responds:

hmm good stuff, all of the instruments are the 8-bit sounding ones, i just effected them a lot.
the one i think you're talking about is saw&sine, but i could see how you think it's quiet.
i usually mix my tracks a little bassheavy (and therefore weak in the higher freq's),
and i'm trying to fix that, but anyways,
thanks for the review!

Drum and Bass?

The drum and bass are A+ material man, and the breaks are pretty solid, but I think you may be experiencing some distortion (maybe from clipping?) on the lead (very audible at around 0:33). Your song might just be overcompressed on the master track, too, because it only seems to kick in when there's a kick from the bass drum. Solid production but I think it suffers a bit from the distortion as mentioned. Hope to hear a remastered version if you're up for you.

MmmCake responds:

I've got a remastered version up. the quality is low because it's at a low bitrate for the purpose of fitting the NG 8MB limit

but yeah, check out that remastered version :D

Crazy Stuff

Lots of bass definition and sweeps, not something you hear very often on a bass that thick. That takes some impressive frequency and volume control I'd bet, so props on that. The beat itself is a little repetetive and I'd like to have heard a bit more top end melody out of it (the song is distinctly lacking in high frequencies in quite a few portions which makes it sound really thick but have no real crystal note to it that catches the ear, if you know what I mean), but on the whole quite a good piece. Looks like you got 0-bombed all the way to the top 30, so congrats on that :p

MSXOmega responds:

Yeah, I know I should change up the beats a bit, they get quite repetitive. Also, my EQing was leaning towards the low side, so that's why it sounds thick at times. I'll be sure to note all of your constructive criticism! :3

Serious Subwoofer

This track's got a lot of extremely low frequency notes, which sound pretty good on my system, but a lot of people might have trouble with that remaining distinct and not muddled. As mentioned, be careful when treading the regions of the subwoofer ;)

BlackVen0m responds:

I know, I don't have any sort of testing gear for lower quality speakers, All I got is my 5.1 surround sound system. Each time I listen to this tune the bass sends my sub walking out the door slowly! xD

Pretty good stuff my man

I can tell you put a lot of time and effort into this mix, it is very reminiscient of the original but has a flavor all its own. I was never huge on the Spaceport level, but the first minute of this song represents some damn good introduction skills.

Do the menu music next :p

CyrusOfNaias responds:

I was thinking that might be a good project lol

thank youu
